What Does Your Content Look Like?
By Jason Pearson | March 30, 2008
Have you ever run across a website that looks good, but as you read into it, the content in it is worthless to you? Unfortunately, there is many a website that is constructed this way. You many wonder why someone would even bother to put up a website if they are not going to take the time and effort to put actual informative, relevant content that will help them get traffic. Well, we must give these people the benefit of the doubt and assume that they know nothing about SEO.
You see, there are many people who think that if they fill their web pages with keywords that the search engines like, they will get the ranking they want. However, the thing to remember is that the search engines have come a long way into actually reading the web pages like a human would. Pretty amazing when you think about it. So, if you are using keywords that are search engine friendly, but not reader friendly, it will do you or anyone else no good.
Finding the right keywords to use is an important task to learn how to do. You want to find the words that people are searching under to find that particular product or service. What is it you are writing about? What type of product or service are you trying to promote? The key is to think like the reader would. What is it they are looking for? What keyword do you think they would use to find what they are looking for?
There are many tools online where you can find the most popular keywords to use. It is best to stick with the specific keywords. You don’t want to choose one that is so highly used that the competition for it may be too great to get ahead of. There are also tools online to check the competition of the keywords as well.
Not only should your content be keyword rich with the keywords that will get you the most traffic, but the content should also be unique. Don’t write like what you see on every other website. You want to write something that stands out. Grab your readers’ attention and pull them in. I think it is safe to say that most people will shy away from content that is extremely boring or hard to understand.
This brings me to the importance of having content that is informative. Think about it - why are the visitors coming to your site in the first place? They are wanting something. Usually they are just looking for some kind of information that will be of help to them. They want their questions answered. If your site doesn’t do this for them, they will leave and find one that does.
Lastly, it is important to realize that the content must be relevant to what your product or service is that you are trying to promote. If you are selling dog food, but your content talks about baby clothes, obviously, this isn’t relevant content. When people are looking for something specific, they want to find a website that has content that is specific to their needs.
So what does your content look like? Is it full of good keywords? Are you pulling in the traffic you want? If not, you may think about looking it over with these guidelines in mind and making some changes. It is worth the time to get the traffic that you need to bring in your income.
